Cockroach Pest Control Service

When it comes to cockroach pest control, Bug Busters Pest and Mosquito Control is your trusted local pest control partner specializing in residential and commercial pest control in Horry County. Our cockroach pest control service is the best there are in Myrtle Beach.

One of the most common pests our customers encounter in and around Myrtle Beach is the dreaded American cockroach or commonly referred to as a palmetto bug in the South.

Palmetto bugs are very resilient and are notorious for their adaptability. They love the warm and humid environments of the Carolina Coast, they love areas that they can easily access food, water and shelter. You can find them in your kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, or any other room in your home that provides them with at least two of their three needs, food, shelter and water. Noticing the signs of the presence of cockroaches can help stop an infestation from occurring.

Understanding Different Cockroach Species

German Cockroaches

The first type of cockroach we encounter in Horry County is the German cockroach (Blattella germanica), which between the two species here is the more tricky to exterminate. They are smaller than the American cockroach, usually half of an inch to one and a half inches. They have distinctive parallel lines running down their back and are a light brown color. They are most common in kitchens, restaurants and cluttered areas where food is left out. They are trickier to exterminate due to their rapid reproduction rates.

American Cockroaches

The larger type of cockroach we encounter in Horry County is the American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), more commonly called the Palmetto Bug. They are double the size of their German counterparts, usually being one and a half inches to two inches long. They are reddish-brown in color with yellowish patterns on their heads. They prefer damp, dark environments such as crawl spaces, behind appliances and most common mulch or flower beds outside.

Luckily at Bug Busters Pest and Mosquito Control we constantly are adapting our methods of getting rid of German and American cockroaches but using various pesticides that first stop them from being able to reproduce and then kill them over a few hours. Any of their friends that then each the deceased roach will become infected with the pesticide and the cycle continues.

Similarities and Difference Between German and American Cockroaches

The main similarity between the German cockroaches and American cockroaches is that they both exhibit thigmotaxis which is a fancy way of saying they prefer tight spaces, they usually will stay along walls or around furniture and appliances.

They both also try to stay active during the night time for when they are foraging for food or trying to reproduce, They are definitely a nocturnal species.

The differences between the two were outlined above, they are different in size with the German cockroach being smaller. The German cockroach is also lighter in color, whereas the American cockroach is a reddish brown.

Lastly, the German cockroach is more often found in kitchens or areas that are humid and hot. The Palmetto bug likes to hangout where it is damp and dark like mulch/flower beds or behind/under appliances and furniture.

Let us explore some of the ways you can get rid of cockroaches and help keep your space free of them from returning. We might be biased when we say that we are the best pest control company this side of the Mississippi but when it comes to understanding the habits of pests and then going the extra mile to exterminate them, no other company does the job like us in and around Myrtle Beach. Below we go into greater detail about how we will help you rid your home and business of cockroaches once and for all.

Maintain Cleanliness at All Times

Both the German cockroach and American cockroach, aka the Palmetto Bug in Horry County are attracted to food crumbs, spills, garbage and other food related products that are left out. Keep your living spaces clean and tidy whenever you can, the longer you let things stay gives the bugs more time to find them and create an infestation.

Make sure to keep all food, including any pet food inside of appliances or air tight containers. One of the most common areas where people do not clean up enough is inside of their refrigerator and microwave. Cockroaches are tiny pests that can squeeze their way into tight spaces.

Eliminate Hiding Spaces

Cockroaches like we talked about before are nocturnal and thigmotaxis, meaning they prefer to stay in tight spaces. Decluttering your home and storage areas will help keep palmetto bugs to a minimum. Seal cracks and crevices when you can that will not allow these bugs to travel from the outside into your home but also from room to room.

Whether you are looking for a one-time application or a routine spray throughout the year, you have our guarantee that we can help you keep your home and yard stay mosquito free. Allow yourself to have a pest free environment for your home and business that you can enjoy with friends and family alike. Click here to learn more about them.
